Cyrus Dallins struggle to give Boston a monument to Paul Revere was a 58-year ordeal with a happy ending. Dallins first commission, begun in 1883, became his final accomplishment, in 1940. In the intervening years, he created seven versions of the sculpture which now crowns Bostons North End.
For a timeline of his ordeal, which included corrupt Boston officials, broken promises, and, in the end, his own money, visit the Dallin Museum. If you are touring Boston, you might want to visit the Paul Revere House, in the historic North End. You will be only a few minutes from Dallin's famous statue.
