Dallin's life-size bronze statue, Appeal to the Great Spirit, is the focal point of the Museum of Fine Arts/Boston's original entrance, on Huntington Avenue. Cast in 1909, there are copies of it across America. Arlington has a plaster cast created in 1912.

Dallin's extensive work with American Indian figures conveys a theme of defiance and desperation in the face of European annihilation. His biographers suggest that the power of these works may have as their source the frustrations that Dallin faced in accomplishing many of his creations.

The fourth gallery of our museum will be devoted entirely to Dallin's Native American work.
